Bridges Blog: Cybersecurity and the importance of protecting yourself and your business.
Hi, I’m Alana and I’m the Compliance & Office Manager for Bridges Insurance Services.
I’ve been in this role for over three years, but my experience started way before that. I’ve always been a bit of a jack-of-all-trades, and as such, spend my days doing what I do best. One of the things I am passionate about is the digital landscape and how it impacts, and will continue to impact, our daily lives.
With all the chatter about cybersecurity, I thought it was timely that our first blog post touched on this. We live in a hyper-connected world, where businesses and individuals rely heavily on digital infrastructure, which means the threat of a cyberattack is bigger than ever. In this blog, I’ll run through some of the benefits of cyber insurance and shed a bit of light on how it can safeguard your business.
So, what is cyber insurance? Also known as cybersecurity insurance or cyber risk insurance, it is a specialised cover that provides financial protection and support in the event of a cyber incident. These incidents can range from data breaches and network disruptions to cyber extortion and intellectual property theft.
Some of the benefits of having this type of cover can range from financial protection, managing data breaches, business interruption, regulatory compliance, incident response and reputational protection. No one wants to be on the wrong end of a cyber-attack, but if you find yourself in that position, having the benefits of a comprehensive cyber insurance policy will help you get back into the swing of things.
We live in an increasingly digital age where no business or person is immune to cyber threats. From text message and email scams, to social media hacks, the best thing you can do is be aware and report anything that looks like a scam to CERT NZ, NZ Police, The Department of Internal Affairs, Netsafe or your local telco provider.
